Is 650cc Too Much For a Beginner?

Many people have been asking whether it is good to ride a 650cc for a beginner or not. The answer is a positive “Yes”.  Their predictable and reasonable power output has helped them pass this test!

Is 650cc Enough For Highway

There is a great feeling that comes with riding our bikes on the highway. Although dirt bikes are made for off roads, going through these dusty, rocky and muddy roads is not always fun. Therefore, sometimes we want to hit the smooth highway and enjoy the beauty of it.

Before you get yourself in trouble, put everything in place. The most important thing you need to do is understand what is expected of you as a rider. There are two major tests every rider should undergo for them to obtain a license of riding on the highway. The first license is known as A and the second one is A2.

License A allows you to ride large motorcycles, any size, and any power. The second license is the most common but it only allows you to ride medium power motorcycles not exceeding 46Bhp. License A is only given to riders of 24 years. On the other hand, License A2, requires you to be 19 years old.

Is 650cc better than the smaller bikes?

650cc is better than a smaller bike especially for experts and intermediary riders. However, it might not be the best option for beginners. It is advisable for beginners to start their lessons with a small bike as it is much easier to control.  

If you are a beginner and you believe in yourself and are ready to take the risk, go for a 650cc. There are many advantages of using a 650cc for experts and intermediaries. Some of these include;

  • Freedom of riding on any terrain.
  • They are faster and more powerful
  • It gives you a smoother experience on the road.
  • A larger cylinder volume makes it easy for you to remain on the road longer without worrying about running out of fuel.

On the other hand, for a beginner, it is advisable to start on a much smaller cc. some of the reasons for doing this include:

  • The bike bears a smaller cylinder volume which is much cheaper to maintain.
  • A bike with less cc is less powerful and therefore much easier to control.
  • Since they are not very fast, cornering will be more convenient as well as braking when need be.  
  • Learning to ride a bike should never be an expensive or a risky affair. For this reason, a bike with smaller cc is recommended for beginners at any time.

Should I Buy a Grom?

A grom has been rated as the best bike for beginners for that reason, it is worth investing in. If you are a tall person and are looking for a good starter bike, a grom would do. The grom is 10 times better than Kawi 125 and many other starter bikes.

What Are The Legal Requirements for Riding a 650cc?

When it comes to legal requirements of riding a motorcycle, every country has its own rules. There are however many things that are common in many cities and countries. The most important thing is having the necessary motorcycle requirement. The basic requirement is owning a provisional motorcycle license.

It is also very important to ensure that you complete a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) course. This allows you to ride a motorcycle of up to 125cc on the public road unaccompanied. The bike should also not exceed 11KW and should have a L-plate for not less than two years.

There are different license categories for motorcycles and mopeds. Some of them are listed below:

  1. Category AM (moped)

To get this license, you will need to be 16 years of age and above. This category involves two-wheeled vehicles whose speed doesn’t exceed 45km/h (28mph). You can also ride a 3-4 wheeled vehicle of not more than 25km/h (15.5 mph). The motorcycles under this category should not have more than 50cc and its power output should not be less than 4KW.

  • Category A1 – minimum age 17

This is the second lowest license category that is characterized by a minimum age of 17 years. The motorcycle should not be more than 125cc, and its maximum power should not be less than 11kW. At the same time, a tricycle of not less than 15kW also falls under this category.

  • Category A2

This is a bit higher than the other two as the minimum power output limit in this category is 35kW. The power to weight ratio should also not be above 0.2kW/kg with an age limit of 19 years and above.

  • Category A

This is the highest among all the listed categories above. The age limit is set at 24years. There are no restrictions to motorcycles with 35kW power output and above. The license is also allowed for with all tricycles whose power output exceeds 15kW (age limit 21 and above).
